Stepping up our pathways to protect the invaluable contributions of environmental stewardship for people, nature and cultures is the defining challenge of our next decades.  It is also is the greatest opportunity for human creativity.  In this talk, Dr Hill draws on the latest assessment from the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), which showed that nature is declining globally at rates unprecedented in human history. Around 1 million species are threatened with extinction, and 75% of terrestrial environment ‘severely altered’ to date by human actions (marine environments 66%). She also highlights how with a step-change in transformative efforts, fostering a fundamental, system-wide reorganization across technological, economic and social factors, with contributions from many, humanity can meet this challenge.

This event, presented by Dr Ro Hill, is part of a series exploring sustainable futures.
